I am sure you have had coffee before, but have you tried egg coffee before? Egg coffee is a special type of coffee that can only be found in Hanoi, Vietnam.
I am very sensitive to the caffeine in coffee, but egg coffee sounds simply too delicious to pass up. Since The Note Coffee which specializes in egg coffee is just a few streets away from whether I am staying, I decided to check it out.
The brightly-lit banner outside the second floor of The Note Coffee is very eye-catching. It reads “Egg Coffee Coconut Coffee”.
The Note Coffee is a regular cafe. It serves all the regular cafe drinks and foods. Coffee, tea and chocolate drinks, smoothies and fruit juice and cakes and snacks.
What makes this cafe so special is its location opposite Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem Lake. The roads around Hoan Kiem Lake are are closed to vehicles from Friday night through Sunday midnight. There are dancing, music and performances. You can see all these from the second and third floor of The Note Coffee.
Besides its strategic location, The Note Coffee is also famous for its post-it decorated walls. All the post-it Notes are messages written by patrons of the cafe.
The Note Coffee also offers air-conditioning, a necessity in Vietnam’s hot and humid weather.
There are powerpoints on the second and third floor and free Wifi throughout the cafe, no wonder I see so many people with laptops.
This is the Egg Coffee [39000VND for Small, 65000VND for Medium] that I came here for. Egg coffee is made of egg yolks, sugar, condensed milk and robusta coffee. It is rich and creamy, perfect for people like me who are not used to the bitterness of coffee.
My coffee and cake came with a note that says “Keep smiling. It looks good on you”. This small note brightened up my day, I guess that is the beauty of this cafe that keeps people coming back.
It just feels wrong to have coffee without something to nibble on, so I decided to order a piece of cake. There are Strawberry/Mango/Raspberry Mousse, Tiramisu, Red Velvet, Opera Cake, Black Forest and Macaroons. Everything sounds so good, what should I order? I asked for a recommendation from the smiley guy behind the counter and he recommended the Red Velvet. Red Velvet it is, and it is every bit as good as he says it is.
The cake itself is moist, light and fluffy. The cream cheese in between the layers of cake is rich and creamy. Its slightly acidic taste compliments the sweet Egg Coffee perfectly.
I am sure all the cakes and drinks at The Note Coffee must be equally good. I believe a cafe that makes such delicious egg coffee and red velvet cake is just not capable of serving bad food.
Delicious cakes and drinks, Wifi, air-conditioning and unparalleled view of Hoan Kiem Lake and surroundings. The Note Coffee is the perfect place to rewind after a long day of sightseeing or idle a day away.
