The tour group I was with collaborated with a local travel agency. The travel agency informed us that there was a good chance of catching the Northern Lights that night.
A van picked us up outside our accommodation. It took around 30 minutes to reach a lookout point next to a river. It was pitch dark which is perfect for catching the Northern Lights.
There was a wooden hut complete with a pit for making fire. One of the guys from the travel agency went about roasting sausages and making blueberry tea. The other guy brought us to the bank to catch Northern Lights.
The sky was cloudy at first but the clouds cleared around 11pm and we got to see the most spectacular Northern Lights display.

When the Northern Lights faded away, we went back to the fireplace. September is almost winter in Rovaniemi and we were in the forest at midnight which was colder. Although we were wearing thick winter clothes, we were still shivering from the cold. Eating fragrant grilled sausages, drinking hot blueberry tea and having sweet roasted marshmallows on such a cold day makes the experience complete.
After finishing all the food, the guys from the travel agency drove us back to our accommodation and we went to sleep with memories of the beautiful Northern Lights.
