On the recent 3 days 2 nights Kuala Terengganu and Kapas Island weekend getaway, we stayed at Hotel Seri Malaysia Kuala Terengganu.
I did a quick search online before the trip and the hotel looked alright. A room here costs S$41-65 per room per night, which comes with complimentary breakfast.
Built on the bank of Terengganu River, Hotel Seri Malaysia Kuala Terengganu looks out to Terengganu River and Mermaid Island (Pulau Duyung).
The moment you see Hotel Seri Malaysia Kuala Terengganu, you known it’s a Malaysian hotel. I have never seen so many Malaysia flags in a hotel before.
The hotel hallway are not carpeted and it looks like a scene out of a horror film, especially at night.
The room looks alright but it is sparsely-decorated. The bed linens look clean and there is even a small seating area with two chairs.
The bathroom looks decent enough from the photograph but it is the stuff of horrors. The standing shower area could not drain properly, so our feet were submerged in dirty water while we showered.
I am not sure if the towels are supposed to be grey in color, but my roommate said “the towel look like they have been used in a thousand years” so we decided to use our own towels.
There is complimentary breakfast provided in the cafe on ground floor but there is nothing much to eat. It’s just porridge or rice with some cooked dishes, the only other option is cereal. I would recommend eating at Kuala Terengganu Chinatown instead, there are a couple of coffeeshops that open very early and serves very tasty food.
Hotel Seri Malaysia Kuala Terengganu’s prime location next to Chinatown and affordability are about the only reasons anyone will want to stay here.
Unless you have perchant for hotels that look like the setting for a horror show, I will suggest not staying in Hotel Seri Malaysia Kuala Terengganu. The next time I am in Kuala Terengganu, I will make sure to stay in a better hotel even if I have to pay extra.
This experience has taught me – do not believe the beautiful photographs on hotel websites. Photographs can be deceiving, the place can look like shit and yet look perfect in photographs.
